One million Indians travelled to Thailand in 2015

Country sees 18% surge in Indian visitors

More than one million Indians visited Thailand in 2015, new data has revealed.

According to the full-year arrival stats from Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism & Sports, the Southeast Asian country welcomed a total of 1,069,149 Indian visitors last year.

This marks an increase of 18% compared with 2014 and makes India Thailand’s sixth largest source market.
In 2014, Indian visitors generated a total of THB37.46 billion (US$1.05bn) for the Thai economy, which indicates an average spend THB5,724.70 per day with an average stay of about 7.22 days. This average spend is expected to have risen in 2015, in line with arrivals.

More than half of Indian visitors to Thailand are non-group tours or FITs, with the highest proportion coming for (in order) a holiday, meeting, incentive, convention or exhibition.

Thailand welcomed a total of 29.88 million international visitors in 2015, up 20.4% year-on-year. And more than 71% of these arrivals were from other Asian countries, with China, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea and Laos comprising the top five source markets, followed by India.
