Tourist arrival on e-Tourist Visa during Jan-Aug 2015 shows an increase of 893%

Government of India launched Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) enabled by Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), presently known as e-Tourist Visa scheme on November 27, 2014. At present e-Tourist Visa facility is available for citizens of 113 countries arriving at 16 Airports in India. 

The following are the important highlights of e-Tourist Visa during August, 2015:

1. During the month of August, 2015 a total of 22,286 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 2,705 during the month of August, 2014 registering a growth of 723.9%.

2. During January- August, 2015 a total of 1,69,976 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 17,120 during January-August, 2014 registering a growth of 892.9%.

3. This high growth may be attributed to introduction of e-Tourist Visa for 113 countries as against coverage of earlier TVoA scheme for 12 countries.

4. The percentage shares of top 10 source countries availing e-Tourist Visa facility during August 2015 are USA (25.93%), Germany (10.00%), UAE (8.92%), France (8.76%), Australia (7.20%), Canada (6.39%), Republic of Korea (4.23%), Japan (3.41%), Russian Federation (2.37%) and Singapore (2.22%).

5. The percentage shares of different ports in tourist arrivals on e-Tourist Visa during August 2015 are New Delhi (42.67%), Mumbai (23.40%), Bengaluru (10.37%), Chennai (9.07%), Kochi (5.44%), Hyderabad (4.21%), Kolkata (2.38%), Trivandrum (1.87%) and Goa (0.58%).

Czech Republic launches its first visa application centre in India

The Czech Republic has officially opened its first Visa Application Centre (VAC) in India, in Mumbai with VFS Global. H E Milan Hovorka, Ambassador Designate for the Czech Republic in India and Bhutan, inaugurated the centre, along with Rashmi Jolly, Honorary Consul for the Czech Republic in Maharashtra & Goa and Roman Masarik, Charge d’affaires a.i., Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi. The second VAC of the European country has also been officially unveiled in New Delhi.

Hovorka, who is presently on a visit to India after taking over as Ambassador Designate recently, said, “I am extremely honoured and privileged to represent the Czech Republic in India, and I would be more than keen to take bilateral relations between our two countries to the next level. I will be coming to Mumbai on a regular basis. India is an important country, and Mumbai is an important part of this nation. We are interested in strengthening ties with other parts of India as well, and definitely we would like to promote people-to-people contact.”

About the new VACs, he said, “The new visa facilities demonstrate a continuous commitment of the Czech authorities to improve quality of service for visa applicants. Their opening provides the right answer to the substantially increased interest in visiting the Czech Republic. I invite all to benefit fully from this new service.”

Things You are Not Allowed on an Airplane

Going for International Holidays first time and confused what to carry? Most of all Travelers often find themselves confused with changing guidelines for airline travel. Many items prohibited on airplanes are logical restrictions. Potentially dangerous items are generally restricted to checked luggage, if allowed at all. If you are unsure about an item not listed, contact your airline for clarification. Also you can Check with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for the latest restrictions.

Sharp Objects

Sharp items prohibited in carry-on bags include box cutters, ice picks, knives, meat cleavers, razor blades, sabers, swords and scissors with blades longer than 4 inches. Plastic knives or butter knives with a round blade are allowed. Sharp objects are allowed in checked bags if sheathed or wrapped. If you are sikh you can carry 'Kirpan' with blade size of  less then 4 inch.

Firearms

No firearms are allowed in a carry-on bag. Flares and gun powder are prohibited from both carry-on and checked luggage. Firearms and flare guns may be checked if unloaded, packed in a locked, hard-sided container and declared. Compressed air guns are allowed in checked baggage with the compressed air cylinder removed. Ammunition may be allowed in a checked bag, but the rules vary by airline. Gun lighters, parts of guns, pellet guns, realistic replicas of guns, BB guns and starter pistols are allowed in checked baggage.

Self-Defense & Martial Arts Items

Self-defense and martial arts items are prohibited in carry-on bags. Items allowed in checked baggage include mace, pepper spray, throwing stars, night sticks, stun guns, brass knuckles, billy clubs and other martial arts weapons. Mace or pepper spray must have a safety device to prevent discharge during transport.

Sporting Equipment

Most sporting equipment is prohibited as a carry-on. Baseball bats, bows and arrows, cricket bats, hockey and lacrosse sticks, ski poles, golf clubs, pool cues and spear guns must all be transported in checked luggage.

 

Tools

Tools, including screwdrivers and wrenches, that are seven inches or less in length are allowed in carry-on luggage. Other tools such as axes, hatchets, crow bars, hammers, drills, drill bits, cattle prods, saws and tools longer than seven inches must be packed in checked luggage

Explosives

All explosives, flammable liquid items and disabling chemicals are prohibited from both carry-on and checked luggage. Prohibited items include blasting caps, dynamite, flares, grenades, fireworks, replicas of explosives, aerosols, any fuel, gasoline, gas torches, strike-anywhere matches, lighters, paint-thinner, bleach, chlorine and spray paint. Other explosives or flammable objects not listed are prohibited as well. Contact the airline if you are unsure about an item.

Amount of Liquids

Liquids are allowed in your carry on luggage in limited quantities. Liquids must be in bottles of less than 3.4 ounces. All bottles must be inside a quart-size zip-top bag. One bag is allowed per person. Breast milk, formula and medications are exempt from the liquid rule. They must be declared at the security check point.

Indian arrivals rise in August

India continued to experience rising visitor arrivals in August 2015. 

According to the latest data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism, 589,000 international visitors entered India last month, up 2.3% compared to August 2014.

Bangladesh accounted for the highest proportion of visitors (15.8%) followed by the US (12.5%), UK (9.7%), Sri Lanka (7.3%) and Malaysia (3.5%).
